What a time we all
had at the NARTS Annual Conference in Atlanta!

Here is Thursday evening and the Flamingo Flocking.
That's Deb McD of Revente and her
manager Heather. We all agreed that Deb won the prize for Flamingest
Flamingo. The prize was a genuine vintage set of pink plastic
flamingo cocktail stirrers.
You'll notice on the table, the GOLDEN
FLAMINGO Award, given to the Sharing Poster with the most informative and
entertaining posts throughout the year. We had to amend the
award this year so it read: "For the most informative,
entertaining,
and EXHAUSTING posts on Sharing"....
because the award went to Janis Abel of Young
& Restless in Houston TX for her taking us into her life, and not
asking us to come help paint! (Photo? No prob.
Thanks to Deb.)
In the background, Joanne Counce from St. Louis, and offering a hug is
Stephanie Hirsch, whose 4 New Orleans-area shops, Prima Donna's, were destroyed in
Hurricane Katrina. She's got 2 back up and
running. Stephanie gave a very
moving talk about how she and her business survived Katrina. Read the synopsis
of what went on here at TGtbT and how our Sharers were able, in some
way, to help all those displaced, and Stephanie too.
More later, come on back...
gotta fill all those orders from SourceMart now!

Resale 101: The Workshop,
from NARTS Conference 2006
To those who attended the morning workshop I gave in
Atlanta, welcome. I've listed the live links that I referenced (or forgot
to!) in my workshop on this page so you can visit them easily. Here's
wishing they make you feel more confident and knowledgeable in your shop.
Start here to find your state's
government site for filling in all the forms and applications. Click
on your state, then look for something that says "small business
startup" or the like. Take me
there, Kate.
Sarah Deveau, owner of Cater Tot
Consignment in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada, did a great blog as she was
readying her shop for business. Get a great marketing tool here. Take
me there, Kate
For those who were unable to attend the NARTS
Conference, here's the handout link on the bottom of
our PDQ Page along with our other free PDQs. And for those who need some
inspiration, on the PDQ Page at the bottom is a link to my FREE To
Be a Resaler signage/poster.
To the right, a
photo (by Deb McD) of Janis receiving the Golden
Flamingo Award
from Kate. No, Kate does not ALWAYS have her mouth open; it just seems
like it... You will notice how well the folks in the background are paying
attention to this world-shattering event.
Here
we have, left to right: Carolyn Barter of Baja
Rosi's; Kate, exhibiting her you's not fat you's fluffy
flamingo undies, Tracy True Dismukes of Collage
and Lauri Fitzpatrick of Wears Like
New. Lauri gave the keynote speech and inspired us all!
Enjoy all that's researched, gathered
and posted on this page, and visit our Products
Page to find out all the help that's available year-round to better
your business. If you wish, throw a few pennies in the hat as a monetary thank-you to Kate for
taking the time and effort to make this info available for you to use in
your business.
These
partiers are Patty and Ken Hulce from Wandering
Wardrobe (notice that Patty's caught the open-mouth disease from Kate)
and Nanci and Jay McCalister of Easy
Street. Notice that Jay has a dead flamingo on his shirt. How sick is
that? Or maybe, the flamingo's just topsy-turvey with delight over being
with all his buds. Yeh, that's it. The little fluffy things are the
flamingo pens Kate handed out to everyone. Don't know what Ken did with
his....
To
Be A Resaler This ready-to-print
poster is my gift to you. Simply click and
download, print it out and use it in your shop. Enjoy it...all I ask is
that for legal reasons, you do not delete the copyright notice on this
creation. I think you...and your clientele...will like this.
Remember,
Sharers, helping Laurie critique and choose a logo for her shop? Well,
here's an idea we all saw on the NARTS Conference bus tour of her
shop.
Since the walls are double hung with
"short" stuff, Laurie is taking advantage of that space in
between tiers to display shoes and other accessories. (There's also
display shelving above the top rod, as you can glimpse in the photo.)
These are glass shelves, and some shopkeepers were
concerned about the combination of glass and kids. If you like this idea
but cannot figure out how to secure the glass from accidents, use
plexiglass. (But buy extra shelves, since the plexiglass will scratch and
show wear fast.) Don't try this with opaque material, though: the bottom
rod of clothing will be obscured.
More people, courtesy of Carolyn, at the end of
Conference. From left: Cathy of Smarty Pants, Sybil of Positively Plus,
Glenda of Caprice, (in front doing something weird) Shirley of Second
Glance, Joy of The Merchandisers (wholesale jewelry and accessories),
Karen of To Be Continued, Vicky of Little Specialty Shop, Carolyn of Baja Rosi's, and Mandy
of Putt'n on the Ritz
