Are we having fun
yet?
A temporary file of fun
resale and consignment stuff. See it today, it may not be
here tomorrow!....
New Year's Eve 2007... Do YOU
remember your last sale of the year?
Kate Buck of Sugardaddy's
does! Here's what Kate posted on Sharing on New Year's Eve:
It was about 4:40 pm. and a couple walked
into my store. I don't know who he was, but she was unmistakable.
She walked into the back and proceeded to get an arm load of clothes
together. I showed her the dressing room and she was very polite.
Then she came up to the counter and was wearing the rabbit jacket
that was marked down to $20. I cut the tag for her, and said "I
have to ask which one are you"? or something equally dumb. She
smiled and said "Mary Kate".
So next time you see a picture of Mary Kate Olsen, look close and
see if she is wearing a rabbit jacket, if so, it may be the very
last sale I made in 2007.
Of
course ALL the Sharers were on the lookout for a paparazzo photo of
the star in her $20 bargain, and April was the first to come up with
it! Click the photo to see Kate's jacket... the photo is captioned
with Mary-Kate
Olsen leaves a restaurant in NYC's West Village. The millionairess
pairs her bright green, Asian-inspired top with a fur jacket ... and
a scowl. Not a MENTION of the fact that she bought it at
Sugardaddy's!
I came across this fun little note about consignment shopping in
Rome:

and this story of how a dress agency in Britain got started (it
reads like a novel!)

Back
by Popular Demand near Atlanta was a stop on 2006's NARTS
Conference bus tour. Well, Melissa and crew have moved to more
spacious quarters, and here's a few photos. Looks great!
Notice the mirrored slatwall (well-worth the cost splurge, isn't
it?) and the great colors and displays in the kids' area. They went
from 2200 feet on two floors to 5500 feet on one level.

Some
photos I took at the local mall around Christmas, to show you
how easy it is to do an attractive window display without a lot of
fuss and bother. To the left, Bombay Company:
they used different-height plain risers and clustered similar style
merchandise. Look closely and notice, the risers are set at slight
angles to one another to give dynamic rhythm to the display. (Angles
always give more "energy" than straight-on....) Easy as
pie, as soon as you get a few plain tables/ risers (or get someone
to build you some!)
Gymboree's window, right,
is
even simpler. Once you install some rods and find a few clips. it
could be changed in five minutes. The rods/clips here are high-tech
feeling, but who's to say they couldn't be different: Attractive
tree branches (wouldn't white birch be nice?) for a rustic-decor
shop, or even bright fresh straw brooms for a Clean Sweep Sale!
Also, notice it's a "closed-back" window....but only
because you're looking at the back of a shelving unit or armoire. If
you prefer the look of a closed-back window, this is an easy
solution.
Cache's austere and terribly-chic
window, left, does require the initial investment in 3 mannequins/
dress forms and a stand or two for
accessories,
but that's it, total, and again, window-dressing time is minimal...
you'd save, in a year's time, the cost of the props by spending less
time changing the window. This window, in contrast to Gymboree's, is
open-back: you can see right into the shop. (And above, the Bombay
Company treads the fine line: no back to their display, but they
have hung from a high rod a swatch of opaque fabric a.k.a. for us
frugal resalers, a curtain panel or even shower curtain!)
Look what happens when we inspire our fellow shopkeepers to
expand! This is a shot of what Hope Meyer's erstwhile Children's
Attic
,
now to be Fusion Wear Louisville KY, looks like Feb. 2007. But it'll
be great soon, we know, and look at the first shot of her signage!
Has your appetite been whetted for more resale
shop photos? We have two pages of them... and you can even
participate by sending yours! Take a look here
and here too.
